Entrance Island Lighthouse
Location on a small island off the mouth of Nanaimo harbour about 13 Km, or 1 km of the northeast tip of Gabriola Island.
The lighthouse was an important safety aid to navigation from that time till the present.
the museum has pictures of the lighthouse on display and the fog horn from entrance island.

Duties of the lighthouse Keepers
- maintain the lighthouse
- provide regalarly scheduled weather reports
- assist during seach and rescue operations
- provide on site security
- service generators, maintain equipment buildings and grounds
- repot suspicious activities, oil spills, wildlife sightings
- collect climate and sea water temperature

- entrance Island provides 7 daily marine local weathwe reports
- 7 days a week, 365 days a year for a total of over 2500 observations per year
Additional WeatherServices
Special weather reports (issued when conditions deteriorate quickly in between scheduled observations) and reporting current conditions when called by pilots, fishermen and other mariners.
Entrance Island sees o lot of daily traffic, nearly a 100 float planes fly past the station on a daily basis. For pilots, on days with low vivibility due to fog, lighkeeps observations are very important.
The station see a lot of marine trafic as well including: ferries, comercial fishing boats, barges, log booms, tug boats, recreational; fishermen, and sailboars.
Nearly 100 float plane flights travel pasr Entrance Island every day.

Entance Island Lightkeepers have been collecting sea water temperatures every day for 74 years, They also collect daily air temperatures min/max and rainfall.


As the eyes and ears of their respected areas lohthouse keepers are often called upon to assist during seach and resue operations.

The island is home to a number of wildlife species during different times of year.
